I’ve read thousands of books.
I’ve watched hours upon hours of educational videos.
I’ve listened to countless personnel development audio programs.
I’ve studied and studied—until finally…
I’m embarrassed that it took this long to figure it out, I really am. But I’m happy that I did.
I finally found it.
I have uncovered the SECRET to success, to getting anything you want in life.
I hope not. In fact, I hope you CRINGE anytime someone starts spitting out words like “secret.”
Listen, there is NO secret.
BUT, there is one very important key that makes all the difference in the world.
If there was ever to be an actual secret to achievement it would be this: You can have anything you want in life, but you do need to choose it.
Let me explain… I speak to many people who want more money, who want success, who want a better marriage, who want a great career, who want this and that. But when I press further, when I ask specifically WHAT they want, they don’t know.
They come into my office asking to be made more successful, so I throw them a dime and say, “You’re now more successful!” and give them a bill. Of course, they know I’m joking around, but I gave them exactly what they asked for.
The truth is, they don’t know what they want.
Sure, they had a general idea of what they wanted, but the universe doesn’t work in generalities, and neither does your mind. It wants specifics. It obeys direct commands with precision. Give it general questions and it’s lost, give it specific commands and like the power of the sun harnessed in a magnifying glass, it’s incredibly powerful.
It’s overused, cliché, and pounded down our throats often, but it all boils down to GOALS.
Goals. What a dry, boring word.
That, my friend, is part of the problem. For many, the word “goal” leaves a pit in your stomach because it reminds you of all the goals you’ve set and failed to achieve. Instead of pulling out a feeling of excitement, for some it’s depressing.
I remember a low point in my life when I felt like I couldn’t do anything right. Like everything I touched failed, and I kept telling myself, “I need to set some goals!” But every time I went to write them out, I’d get this overwhelming fear. I was scared to set goals because I didn’t want to fail some more. It almost felt like writing goals would just be kicking me while I was already down.
If you’re in that spot, I wish I had a magic pill to offer you, but I don’t. The only way I got through that was by putting pen to paper.
It wasn’t easy. In fact, I opened and closed my goal notebook many times. I’d get pumped up, pull out the book, pull out the pen, open it, then fear would set in and I’d close it. Finally, I managed to write a few words down. Then I put a sentence. Then I put some dates. Then finally, after several weeks of this I listed out everything I wanted in life, everything I would no longer settle for, everything I demanded from myself and the new standards that I would live by.
And that’s the day my life changed forever.
Now let me ask you this… WHAT changed my life?
It’s very simple, and to me it’s the secret, the KEY to achievement. What changed my life was deciding definitively and precisely WHAT I wanted in life.
Not just thinking about it.
Not generalizing it.
Not dreaming about it.
Deciding exactly what I wanted, to the dollar in my account, the weight of my body, the fitness level, the quality of my marriage, the time with my family, the time riding my bike, everything.
I didn’t just want to get out on the bike more, I wanted to ride 2 hours every morning from 8 to 10am, and race twice a month.
I didn’t just want to spend more time with the family, I wanted to take a 3 hour outdoor adventure every second day and go camping once a month. I wanted to take each family member (3 kids and my wife) on a one-on-one date once per week. I wanted to tell them I love them 4 times minimum a day, kiss my wife for a solid 20 seconds three times a day, etc.
The point is, I was precise.
You can have anything you want out of life, but you do have to DECIDE what you want.
If you don’t decide what you want, you’ll get whatever happens to come around. And let me tell you something, RARELY do abundance, happiness, ecstasy, and passion just happen to drift into your life. You need to set your goals and go after them with relentless pursuit.
Now, I do want to give you a very stern warning….
If you just set your goals and forget them, you aren’t going to achieve shit.
How’s that for direct?
I’ve heard some say that just setting goals is good enough and some will come true just from the simple act of writing them down, but that’s not a chance I recommend taking.
Once you’ve decided what you want, you need to back your goals with ACTION. DAILY action. Constant action. MASSIVE ACTION.
They say you should review your goals every day, but that didn’t seem to do enough for me. I need accountability, I needed something more, so I created my daily checklist system that has worked wonders for me.
Here’s my system that I created and personally use every single day: https://rysmarketing.com/product/goal-setting-kit/
It’s incredibly simple, easy to use and powerful!
The world is full of wandering generalities. You deserve to be a meaningful specific.
Identify your goals, figure out what you want in life, what you want to achieve, how you want to live, what kind of lifestyle you want, who you want to spend it with, where you want to spend it, and GO AFTER IT.
You deserve it. Decide, plan, and attain.
To your success,
PS – Everyone has a different definition of wealth. To me, true wealth is discretionary time. It’s having the freedom to do what I want, when I want, with whoever I want, and as much as I want. Of course, WITHOUT the world falling apart behind me. The system found HERE has helped me immensely with this. And I’ve set it (for a few days only) at only $2.99. That’s less than the $5.95 I just spent at Starbucks while writing this 😉
